About Sherie

Sherie is a contemporary landscape artist who explores the expressive qualities of mixed media to create atmospheric landscapes, reminiscent of a place or moment in time.

The relationship between human and the natural world is an underlying theme of her work. Sherie strives to portray the unique freedom of wild places, in a civilisation where the countryside is constantly being urbanised and wild places are under threat.

Born in Suffolk, Sherie was captivated by the freedom of the mountains of Snowdonia during childhood visits. Her passion for these places has never left her and she regularly spends time in the hills of Scotland and Wales which are a constant source of inspiration for her paintings.

From her Suffolk studio, Sherie works from sketches, photographs and memory, of her visits to wild places. The canvases evolve as she works on them, the media itself becoming a fundamental part of an organic process in dictating what the painting becomes. Sherie searches for this sense of “wild” in her locality. The elements are her primary inspiration in her portrayal of Suffolk.

“My paintings pay homage to nature and the wild places that I love; places where I feel humble and to simply exist gives one a sense of belonging and a connection with the earth. Modern life increasingly dictates every element of our lives, my paintings are an escapism.”

Sherie specialised in painting for her Art and Design degree, for which she was awarded in 2001. Her large expressive landscapes gained a first. Shortly after completing her degree, she won the Anna Airy award.

Alongside her landscape work, Sherie loves to portray animals where she strives to capture the unique bond between animal and human. To view her animal gallery and to commission her click here.
